I pay my drivers 25%. Why do you believe that it's the autohaulers association that started the idea??my opinion is if I paid my team on a per mile basis like you are talking about is I would greatly benefit of the back of my drivers. The industry is splintered. I think the auto haulers association could be a great thing. To bring some networking and industry standards. For networking I have also started a chat board just for auto haulers. It's in my profile.

I don't know if they are behind the move to mileage pay or not. It's just a wild guess. I say kudos to you for paying percentage. It's the only way to go from a drivers perspective. I'm sure the ahaa is doing great things for their member companies. I know one company to the next different strokes for different reasons. Keeping your rates from becoming widely known is difficult with drivers knowing what they are. Disgruntled former employees would have ammo to use against a former employer if they know the rates. I was just curious if the trend is for larger outfits to pay mileage. Seems like payroll would be much easier to figure than cpm per car.

Well the rate thing is what it is. I have a great team and we have struggled to fill a seat hear and there. Most of my ex drivers are still very friendly. I have a few that would love to see something bad happen also. We do our best and hope for a good outcome. Gary Moore has built a huge business and is much larger than most. So I will watch from the sidelines to see how it goes. If my drivers want a mileage based pay we will discuss it. For now I'm happy with what the company makes and the team is happy with what they make. We all win.

I will say this to the O.P. if these rates continue to drop, your company just did you a HUGE favor paying you mileage, I think 30 cpm is the new 50 cpm when it comes to auto hauling rates, I have 4 truck and trailer rigs sitting right now in the yard, and I am NOT in a hurry to put anyone in them at these rates.

Ive always been paid percentage and like it better.
Some of the runs I do now @30% would be 2 to 3 bucks per mile. Ive talked to some of my buddys at different outfits getting per mile dont think i would take the pay cut.

Its all about the length of the haul as some one else mentioned and DH. If you run a long one the rate will decrease if you DH back.If you run very short locals the way I normally do the rate goes up!

My usual trip is 6500-7000 miles. So I get paid 25% of load. I don't know it is general crisis in this business or it is just now but when I started my gross used to be $15 000 for this 6500 miles trip, now my gross is barely $13000. So my pay has been reduced.

what you mean don't add ap?

I used to make 3800 and now I make 500 less and I used to make PA-CA-PA round trip in 11-12 days and now I need 15 days. Business got worse in my case, don't know about other companies and locations

Question for the guys that pay % and the company guys that get it.

I sent a new driver to a company to get training before he jumps into my new truck next year. The company pays %25 of the revenue. BUT he is responsible for any damages ( up to the deductible ) is this normal or is this just a crap company?
