I was at the truckstop in Rockingham NC last night and seen something that blew my mind. A cop pulled this truck into the truck stop and started inspecting him. The truck had that multi color paint job, looked like it was held together with bubblegum. Anyhow, I noticed he was hauling timber and none of it was secured.. by the time he was done, the driver was strapping it all down. Is this normal not to secure logs and timber? or is that driver just an IDIOT. I feel like an idiot for asking because I assume I already know the answer lol
crazy log hauler?

Lazy driver. Most guys will drive a kilometer or so from the loader to the stamp hammer with no wrappers but that's about it. All in the bush of course. Around here it is normal to throw 3 cable wrappers over a load of long logs. They don't actually get strapped to the trailer, rather they simply bundle the logs together.
mrdot Thanks this. -
The Russian steel haulers in Detroit with the long, multi-axle sled trailers will throw one chain through each 40,000# + coil and haul ### through all the potholes to their destination across town. Short trip = fuggetaboutit.

I think that all is just wild! This guy had nothing, granted he probably wasnt going far but I have seen final destination too many times to not wonder! Lol

Short hauls with loads that should be secured on a flatbed or similar I've noticed a lot of guys taking shortcuts on how much securement they put on. "Hey, I'm just going 10 miles to my next pickup (or drop off), what could happen!???"
I don't care if I'm moving the load 1 mile or 1000 miles, if it is going on a public road I'm securing it according to standards. The amount of time being saved in a typical load for me might be 20 minutes per stop at the most. I'd hate to face a jury explaining I was saving 20 minutes but that 6000 lb bottom tool went through Mrs. Jones skull as a result.bottomdumpin, MrEd, Highway Sailor and 4 others Thank this.
