Guarantee they drive it wrong if those numbers are correct. Bet they are lugging the hell out of it because someone told them the lower the rpm the better

At some point there is a diminishing return. Perhaps 10mpg is not even possible. Crazy how some people become so obsessed with fuel mileage. If they put half of that obsessive effort into learning market rates and lanes they could, with relative ease, increase their revenue a hell of a lot more than a measly 3% of 8 mpg to 10 mpg.

You certainly got that right. It's not like we are talking about trying to improve fuel economy when you're getting under 5 mpg.

Agree to a point but that is a 25% improvement . Going from 8 to 10. But no one says you can not improve fuel mileage and improve your business model.

I have a brick shaped long hood. I go the speed limit up to 75. My fuel costs .10 to .15 more per mile. It seems easier to me to MAKE .15 more CPM than SAVE it.........

    At $2 a mile average it pencils out to a 3% decrease in fuel cost. Or 6% @ a $1 a mile. Or 1.5% @ $3 per mile.

    Terry270 and truckon Thank this.

Basically what rc is saying is its not a direct ratio. he is absolutely correct in this. do the math if you don't want to just take our word at it. Actually, don't take our word for it. Doing the math makes the concept sink in much better. It's almost like a light bulb turning on, that obvious.

Some quick numbers for you, using 2 bucks a gallon for fuel cost and 2 buck a mile rate.

4 mpg is 50 cents per mile.

    Going to 6mpg results in:
33.3 cpm. A 16.7 cpm increase in your bottom line.

    Going to 8mpg results in:
25 cpm a 8.3 cpm increase to your bottom line

Going to 10 mpg results in:
20 cpm a 5 cpm increase to your bottom line.

Do the math to find the percentage increase in net for each gain in mpg. It will be eye opening.

Onemanshow and rollin coal Thank this.

That's real eye opening.....I get 6 now. In my application NOBODY IS EVER!......going to get 10. If they did it would be .13 @ $2 per gal.

Even if ten was possible, it would take such a drastic change it may never pay for itself. Every situation is unique. For me I've gotten to mid 7's rather easily, with little monetary investment. Going from mid 7s to mid 8s will require writing a big fat check. And at the miles I run, take several years to break even. that's those diminishing returns, it gets to a point that it's really just not worth it.
