Will the bases let your spouse on base with you if she has a TWIC card ? I haven't been on a military base in years

Very few care about a twic card, they do their own back ground checks. If they have a no passenger policy, the only way around that is a cdl. Then she is no longer a passenger, but a co driver. Keep in mind, not all bases have a strict no passenger no pets rule. Just some of them. some also have a no camera rule, so you have to hand over your phone, lap top, and dash cam upon entry.

I agree, I have come to realize twic is of course just a money grab. Delivered this morning at Yorktown naval weapons base and didn't care about twic. Took dl and passport and waited on background check. Even though the twic required a background check, the three active live munitions bases I go to do a background on the spot.

It always helps to have a TWIC though.
Keeps you moving in the ports.
Escort fee can get high in some areas, plus you have to wait for them to show up.

Not every port accepts a twic.

    Ok I've heard that.
    What down Florida way?
Rates are crud down there most of the time so works for me.
The ones here in the NE all require it.

I'm not saying a person shouldn't get a twic. Enough places require it that it's almost mandatory to have, especially if you pull open deck. I'm just saying it hasn't been implemented as advertised. It was pushed under the justification that it would be accepted at all ports, military bases, and chemical plants as sufficient clearance to access all but areas requiring secret clearance. It would speed the process of getting access, saving truckers time. But unfortunately that's never happened. Many places require their own passes, ga port authority for example, which comes with additional cost.

I pulled containers for awhile florida and Georgia. It was irritating I got the TWIC and then had to get a Georgia port ID and then a Jaxport badge. What's the twic for then. Like you said money grab. But when I go to the rails nothing, just register the first time in and after that nothing pull up. Give them my DL # and I'm on my way. Pulled containers from the Marine base in Jax FL showed them my cdl let them look the truck over and that was it. Never wanted to see TWIC just cdl.

Wait a second, I didn't say it was a money grab. I said it was a great idea that was not fully implemented.
