My dad's old w9 with just a stock sleeper weighs over 22. A w9 is a heavy truck. Especially if you spec it with a big engine and big tranny and rears.

I'm still here. I've been home for the past 2 weeks. I had to get my truck fixed from the wreck plus my wife was going to the hospital on the 23rd to have our daughter. Truck should be ready tomorrow and I've just been enjoyingoing my time with my wife and son and our new daughter. It's time to get back after the money.

I am sad to say that I am no longer a Mercer driver. Let me say first and foremost that it is not the company's fault. Mercer is a great company. I felt like part of the family at mercer from the first day until the last day.

The money at mercer was great. I have always put money before everything and I have always thought money was all that mattered. I have finally figured out that there is something that matter far more and that's family. Something happened to me the day my daughter was born. It's something I can't explain. I didn't have the same feeling when my son was born. Don't get me wrong, I love my son to death and would die for him but when the little girl got here it's just a different feeling. If you have a daughter then you know what I'm talking about.

My wife and I sat down and talked about how it was getting harder for me to get home during the week and she needs help. I decided to go back to my previous company, the company that gave me my start. It's a small local company and everything is out and back. No deadhead, no bouncing around. I was typically home 3 nights a week plus off on the weekends. I thought the pay was a bit low before I left for Mercer but by the time you add in deadhead, sitting for a day or 2 waiting on a load, etc then the pay is close to the same. I turned in my flat yesterday and bought out all of my securement equipment so that I can sell it.

Flatbed is something I've always wanted to do. I love the flatbed and all of the challenges that come with it. There is a sense of accomplishment that comes with it that allows you to hold your head up a little higher in the truck stop. The comraderie amongst the flatbed community is unmatched and I'm happy that I was able to be a part of it and I hope to rejoin that community in the future before I'm too old.

Thank you to everyone who answered my many questions. Also, thank you to the people who took the time to read my thread and keep reading.

Finally, to all of the skateboarders, keep the load on the trailer and the shiny side up. Be safe and have a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
