Why work harder/longer to earn the same or a little more(or less), why is overtime looked upon favorably when so many jobs provide as good or better standard of living? Ask yourself that and consider whether that truly means you will have better home time...better quality of life and if the benefits are really worth it.

I have never understood why employers and employees tout the amount of overtime expected or worked in order to earn a living, or as incentive to work here, or work there. Relying on overtime is like waiting for a ship to come in, you, working at a port, should now exactly what that is like. The ship will get there if is does not sink, but they are not always on time. Overtime, can at any time, cease to exist.

Be more specific here. Are you paying any medical premium out of pocket??
For you and your wife that's upwards of $500 a month some places. Add in kids and that can add up quick.

Thank you all for your replies.

I just spoke to my new manager, he sounds cool. I'm going to start at $18.46. I know it's not much, but at least it's local work and hopefully a lot of OT.

In the mean time, I need to study again and prepare to get my hazmat, doubles, triples and Tanker endorsements.

The benefits as I understand it is 100% employer paid

Right. I see a contradiction here. Regardless, I hope it works well for you and your family.
