Here's how it is exactly. Op better enjoy the 2900 mile checks. Once they get to know him. The miles will start falling. If he makes a mistake. He's back at the bottom for miles. If not forgotten. How long you work at national doesn't matter. All drivers get treated like they are new hires. So there is no seniority when it come to loads. It's more of a favorites list first. After one year. The miles get cut out. Just like the flipped a light switch. It doesn't matter about skills. They don't listen anyways. The only time miles improve. Is when I get a new fleet manager.

I am enjoying them. Right now, I'm on a run from Idaho Falls, ID to Pompano Beach, FL. They run the crap outta me. More times than not, I barely have time to get a 10 hour break in. Since I came back out last Tuesday, I have only had 3 days with less than 600 miles, and all 3 days were either picking up, delivering, or both. If the miles fall off and I can't get them back up, I'll move along. Too many jobs and companies out there with plenty of miles to sit at a company that won't run you.

Your new! Give it time, you'll see! So I would save your money. And take care of everything in the first 12 months. After that! 1800 miles will become a big check to you. Left laying on the road for 24 hrs after every load will become normal.

National has an absurdly high operational tempo. It won't be long before you're waking up at 1800 thinking its 0600 and experiencing a brief moment of panic.

Like I said; if the miles fall off, I'll move along. There are too many trucking outfits out there to sit at one that won't utilize you...especially if you're a good driver and will run.

And then in 2011, it was sold to Leucadia National via National Beef and they turned it into a training company. Of course that's how trucking is. The good 'ol days are gone. Things change. Mega corporate conglomerates and insurance companies dictate the rules of the game nowadays. JCT used to have a company side. JB Hunt used to be an oilfield outfit. Freymiller used to blow your doors off in their stretched out Petes. Stevens Transport used to be a halfway decent company.

Next year, everybody will have to be on elogs....everybody. And in a few more years, they'll kill the small outfits with the new emission standards. Then you'll look back on these days as "when times were good."

When I ran for them 20+ years ago, The plants and motels in Liberal and Dodge looked like truck show. Mostly all big trucks, lots of chrome. Back then 3500 miles was a slow week, 4500 - 5000 was a good week
