Missouri Pretrip Inspection - Driving Portion Test Points

    I was told today a partial is 47 points in Missouri and you need 35 to pass

    My school only tests in automatic so I'm going to have a thing on my license saying that. I won't be able to drive a standard unless I test in one.

    Eh, it's only 184 items. :p

    In all fairness, I know it seems overwhelming and it can be, but a lot of those checks can be done at the same time since they're in close proximity to one another. It's also good that the list they provided you with is already broken down into little sections since there is a lot of repetition, especially with lights, reflectors, fasteners (nuts, bolts, & screws).

    I think I said "loose, missing, or damaged" more during my time with the examiner than I've said in the following 10 years, but repetition makes it stick in your head and when you first hit the road with a trainer, they'll probably make you go over the entire PTI at least a couple of times. After that though, they'll usually let you slide on the little stuff....like checking the water pump shaft play....

    Just remember and absolutely do not forget to mention the blinker fluid reservoir. Auto-fail.

    Lol...I'll make sure to not say that or headlight fittings! Lucky for me my husband is training me! I've realized when I get to tandems you lose your nuts and bolts on my pretrip paper!

    She said if you get 2/3 on wording she gives it to you! They say broken or damaged to help us get it with multiple chances.

    My school worked with a CDL test site and this is how she said they wanted it for us to pass. They added a few similar words to make sure we say what they want...like broken and damaged. What did you find incorrect if I may ask?

    If you are somewhat apprehensive about test taking, let me suggest you have a back up plan to your pre-trip method.

    I mentored a neighbor through the CDL process right about this time last year. He went to a decent school, but they taught him to use the same "broken or damaged" dialog during the pre-trip walk around. Well... On his test day the examiner explained the testing procedure and then said "And I don't want to hear "Nothing is Broken or Damaged"! -- Tell me what kind of damage you are looking for".

    He got through the test just fine because he actually knew the material. But it was awkward because the whole flow of the walk around he perfected over the previous 3 weeks was thrown out the window with no notice. He was also asked a couple of questions. The one I remember was, he said check tire for proper inflation and the examiner asked him how he would check. The answer is simple enough, but he wasn't expecting questions.

    The moral of the story is expect the unexpected. Good luck!
