Thanks Juan, that does help. That explains a lot. Pretty interesting way of getting paid but I am more than happy to get away from straight mileage pay. I'm also looking to work hard as sitting in a seat driving for almost 8 hours at a time is killing me. Just too much time sitting. The more I move during the day working the less time I have to spend in the gym.
I really appreciate this info. I'll keep things updated here. I submitted my application tonight with Bakers Express. I'm going to follow up with them tomorrow or the next day.

Job is pretty easy, all drop and hook. Union job. You get paid trip rate, which is based off your hourly rate. You start off at $19 and it takes 5 years to reach top rate. Benefits are fully paid, or at least they were when Stroehman had their own private fleet, before Grocery Haulers took over, and I'm pretty you get paid severance pay as well. All depends on if the Stroehman contract transferred over to Grocery Haulers. I think they have cameras in the tractors as well, or some type of tracking device that informs management of what you're doing. Not 100% sure on that. But anyway, it's a really easy job. I know top rate drivers making over $300 a day there.
Best of luck on your road test. -

As far as the pay, $300 a day, 5 days a week is $80k a year, but usually it's the top rate guys making that kind of money. Usually on trip pay, you almost always get the run done earlier than the time that they actually pay you for. So I would talk to one of the drivers if you get a chance, because a lot of what you mentioned is confusing.kevinright2026 Thanks this. -
It was the Brenigsville plant and it was the management that told me it was nonunion .Grocery Haulers web site said in the benefits page that there was a pension. the hiring was fast and kinda unorganized and they knew little about the run down of benefits they said most of my questions would be answered in orientation, -
I wouldn't listen to anything management says, believe me when I tell you this, coming from a former Hostess Brands driver. Like I mentioned, talk to one of the drivers for the inside scoop.
One of the benifits of trip rate is you don't have to clock in or clock out, and if you do a 12 hour run in 9, you still get paid for 12, and you get to go home early as well. One thing I'd like to mention is your probably gonna start off yard jockying, and they get paid hourly, so be prepared for that.
