Here is a link to an Alberta Transportation page of links; in particular, follow the links for:
- Current Alberta regulation at: http://www.transportation.alberta.ca/525.htm
- New Federal Hours of Service Regulation at: http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/showtdm/cr/SOR-2005-313
- Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service "Application Guide" interpretating the new Federal regulation at: http://www.ccmta.ca/english/pdf/HoS_Application_Guide.pdf

@not4hire mind if I pick your brain? Been reading the regulations and such but they're a little confusing.
If I get a truck that's under the 11,794 kg limit and stays strictly in Alberta, would I be required to run a logbook and pretrip? Even if I left the 160 km radius? From what I read and understand, a Safety Fitness Cert would not be needed since I'm not leaving the province. -
1. You need a commercial registration, but not a Safety Fitness Certificate:
Safety Fitness Certificates that include Operating Status are required for commercial carriers operating in Alberta.
- solely within Alberta registered for a weight of 11,794 kg or greater
2. You are exempt from Alberta HOS Regulations:
Application
2(1) This Regulation applies to a carrier with respect to the operation of the following vehicles:
(a) a bus;(2) This Regulation applies to a driver with respect to the operation of the following vehicles:
(b) in the case of a vehicle other than a bus, a vehicle that is registered under the Act for a gross weight of 11 794 or more kilograms.
(a) a bus;- https://www.qp.alberta.ca/documents/Regs/2002_317.pdf (pg. 4)
(b) in the case of a vehicle other than a bus, a vehicle that is registered under the Act for a gross weight of 11 794 or more kilograms.

Awesome. Thank you. That's what I thought but government speak is sometimes hard to comprehend.
