It's amazing...
Any of the following answers would have sufficed...
-Drivers don't care
-Can't afford it
-Mind your business
-I don't know
Among many other versions in which personal assumptions and bias do not fall.... Yet... Some of us cannot even manage that.
Why do 80% of drivers dress like bums?

We have Lonnie at our work..He just got issued a new pete with an automatic, he rolls in all clean wearing white in his newish audi, slides from one couch to another, its ridiculos..He uses these blue disposable gloves on everything...the rest of us are dirty all the time, except Lonnie..the guy i mentioned earlier
mountaingote and Vilhiem Thank this. -
You can go to a work wear store online and buy pants for $25 and shirts for $25 they look nice they are durable. You can build it up in time where at the end of the week drop off the dirty set at the dry cleaners and grab your clean set works very well.

I really don't care what people think. While my clothes maybe well worn, they are clean, you won't find gravy stains that tell a visual story about my journey.A_C_Cooper, Slowpoke KW, KAK and 5 others Thank this. -
When I was a fuel hauler I hurt my wrist and had to work in the office for a few weeks. We had quite a few people come in for job interviews. If they looked like crap it didn't matter how good their driving record/ work record was, the terminal manager wouldn't hire anyone that looked like they didn't care about their appearance. I saw him throw many applications in the trash.
It got to the point when I could tell the second they walked in the door if they'd be disqualified right off the bat.
I remember this one black guy that came in, he didn't have much experience, on paper he wasn't a good candidate, but he wore a shirt and tie and slacks, said yes sir/ no sir. He ended up getting hired over guys with much better experience.
It does make a difference.Swedish Chef, TB John, TAfool and 8 others Thank this. -
All these responses, some good and some not so good.
I'm with the op .
Like it or not , this is what the general trucking industry is getting now. I mean let's face the facts . Trucking in general is not what it was 25 years ago. It used to be a fun job and was well respected by the general public. Drivers were professional and dressed that way also. Driving edicate was apparent and
Over all everybody made a decent buck and was happy doing it.
Turn the page and what do we have now, look around my friends.
It is the opposite of everything I just said. No one wants to be a truck driver now, hence the driver shortage. Really who blames them .
So this is what we are left with in this industry, people who can hardly get dressed in the morning or even shower to go to work . They clearly have no respect for themselves so why would they have any for anyone else. These are the same people who don't give a crap what people think. .Seems this is the only type people this industry can attract now, this may sound harsh but its reality. Sad but true.
God how I miss the good ol days.A_C_Cooper, Slowpoke KW, 12 ga and 4 others Thank this. -

What a bunch of crybabies. Stop hideing behind your keybord and walk up to that person you think is a slob and tell them that they don't meet your standards. The problem is truckers cry about everything. I'm done posting on here. What a disapointing thread.
