Well I'm lucky that I don't suffer from OSA and even if I did, I would tell HireRight to stick their concierge sleep apnea testing service where the sun don't shine. There is NO law in place regarding sleep apnea. The FMCSA can slice and dice it all they want. But these Bozos are acting like there is. For now guys you have to wake up and don't fall for this jive.
A buddy of mine went to have his 2 yr DOT med card issued. The doc there said he needed a sleep apnea test...cost? $3000!! Oh really!! My friend told him thanks but no thanks. Went to another doc and got his card....So there you go. Good luck

Like taking a cook and turning them into a dr with the skill and training to do the job. I think there are enough of these clinics already I hear, why more.

Maybe this sleep apnea testing can go the same way as the Lasik procedure, where competition and being able to shop around would drive down prices, but don't bank on it. Thanks to the FMCSA we can only go to designated doctors so price gouging is more than possible. Maybe our health insurance will cover most of it, but they may not. I know that some folks suffer badly from it, but I'm more than suspicious of the motives by the Govt to target truckers and not the general public. If OSA is that serious then why not test everyone that wants a driving lic. Anyone can suffer from OSA and potentially cause an accident. However, as far as I know, there are no statistics or hard evidence that OSA is a primary cause of accidents.
But unfortunately we as truckers are sitting ducks and in many ways, the whipping boys of the Govt.
