From Mechanic To Driver?

    I have been a truck mechanic for 19 years, I am making the switch to driver, I have had a cdl for 10 years, is it woth the change?

    it is definitely a change in life styles. do you have a family or significant other? if so leaving home for weeks at a time is tough on family life. oh yeah, no more beers after work with the guys. however the money isnt bad, and being in different places all the time is a nice change.(not for going to the bathroom though) Are you at a point in life where trying this isnt a big risk to your financial position. also remember no matter what, it is a little tough at first, but you will get used to it, I myself believe it is a very rewarding career, and whenever I take time off I really miss it. I've never felt that with any other job that I have had.And I can guarantee you it beats cold knuckles in a shop in january.

    having been a cdl holder for several years won't count for much with the OTR companies, if that is what you intend to pursue, then you may be required to take a refresher course. just the way most co's. do it.

    A company has already hired me, just need to do the drug screen, and orientation, will run midwest starting at 0.32 per mile, 0.33 with hazmat.

    awesome and congrat's. that part is out of the way for you then.

    bone up on hazmat and your good to go, i did the online study thing and aced my test. amounted to about ten questin's as i recall
