Went thru primes training years ago got cdl. Within 2 days my trainer is knocked out in the bunk we are basically running team. Quit for a few years found out I was having daughter and lost cdl ( didnt keep up on medical, i was new and dumb:oops:). Stint 2 currently driving for england ya I know, got my cdl back through them. From day one was running team with trainer lol

I guess what im saying is why cant you sleep with a student? Ya i've heard horror stories but you can decipher someones competence in a few days. Straight highway driving should be no issue. My trainers did ask me to wake them if I exited hwy or heavy traffic etc. That stopped when i was already backed into door getting unloaded. Wakened up by the lumpers :D

Umm thats what we all are in trucking for is the money. Or maybe its just me. Been to every state except Alaska and Hawaii I can honestly say I wouldn't miss any of it if I were to never see it again. I got into trucking because I realized the type of money to be made far outweighs my options at home outside of going back to college and thats not a given nowadays. I've had two really good jobs that I was laid off from. Put in years just to get laid off. Cdl you will always have a job. Average 4 year grad makes a little over 50k a year? A lot make less than that. Im close to that now in my first year trucking lol If someone offered me a 1000 a week normal 9-5 job I would abandon my truck right now at this flying j im sitting at without thinking twice about it lol And you been lucky on breakdowns. Twice for me so far when I was otr now dedicated. In grand Junction, CO which sucked. And some small town in Montana that I cant even remember the name its that insignificant.

I was training, not running a team truck. Big difference. There is a lot more work involved with open deck then just driving. Be safe and good luck.

This is true of the Apprentice and Veteran new hires now I believe. I came in with no driving for the last 4 years but having driven quite a lot before that. (Have had CDL since 1997). I had a couple years of local flatbed in MI for a steel company and with that they did not require a refresher. I was scheduled for 2 weeks with a trainer which turned to 3 only because it was over the holidays and the weeks were short. I did not feel I had seen enough to be comfortable on my own.
Got my truck on Jan 4 and my fleet manager told me right away that I was getting the $1K a week for the first 8. It was a pleasant surprise to say the least.
If you have a hazmat and passport it will help you get better loads during the slow times like right now. My 2nd week out I was number 1 on my FM's board as I ran into Ontario for a load up and back. I had over $4K to the truck my 2nd and 3rd week out. This week only just above $3K but I did not leave out until Monday morning.
You can make money with TMC if you focus, plan your day and get after it. Hope this help answer your question some. I might start a new TMC thread as the original poster here seems to have taken a hiatus. lol
