I hate driving from midnight through 06:00. And no doubt many bus drivers do too. But when the job calls for it, what do you do?
It's easy to say "he should not have been driving ". But how do you tell 34 passengers "I'm tired. You and the bunch waiting down the road will have to wait while I grab a cat nap"?
Who among us have not gotten lucky multiple times and survived a brief "nod off" while driving? With Somethings, at some point the odds catch up with you. Just a matter of when, if you do the job long enough.
Bottom line is driving a bus on irregular or all night runs is a tough gig but someone has to do it.Last edited: Jan 19, 2016

Sounds to me like they are going to have to configure buses with a "sleeping compartment area" and a second driver ... and probably have to build new bus driver HOS rules. No. Not kidding. Expect it ... charter and scheduled operations.

I'm a little wiser now. That one time scared me enough to the point that I stop and sleep as soon as I start getting tunnel vision.
