If you paid $300.00 for your dot number then you got for hire authority. This is the same as having a mc number. They have done away with getting a mc number & you will get a dot number & if you want for hire authority it will cost you.

The mc numbers are being discontinued, it is the USDOT number you are tracked by now. The also cancelled the USDOT numbers for registrant only no authority.

I don't understand why Mc number apps are still active on the website if they are discontinued, and $300 still being charged ?

You get the number still, but just about everything is tied to a USDOT number. It used to that a USDOT was needed to license a truck for an owner operator who ran his own plates, but leased to a carrier. What happened was the truck would run around with 2 DOT numbers, so in case of an accident there was a question of exactly who was responsible for the safety functions and insurance. Also if there are more than one name listed on a vehicle, the words (Operated By) are required above the carriers name to identify who is responsible.
