WiseOne's Comments, I AGREE with a HUGE gas tax hike on CARS...but, trucks should have NONE to bring down prices! IF these buttholes want to drive around in their SUV's, incessantly, make them PAY! Truckers have no choice but to deliver our goods! These buttholes I see driving around all the time with SUV's, boats, etc., do have a choice and they SHOULD pay big time for doing it! I say make American's HURT BAD by tearing their wallets apart on gas...but leave truckers alone!

    WiseOne, that's pretty idiotic.

77% of Americans drive to work.

Rail ( getting freight closer) in conjunction with truck transporting which is what intermodel transportation is, may be the answer to many driver complaints about the company's.The railroads can move freight around the country to distribution centers ect. which make the logistics/costs more efficiant. I am sure if i querry this idea i'll come up with information to validate it. Well, does anyone know about this ? A reduction of trucker hours on the road (i.e. safety concerns),high fuel costs and company equipment/road ware and tear, not to mention the driver shortage, would be the major reasons to adopt such a plan. Look, if a newbie ( going to trucking school soon) is thinking about such a model I'm sure the corporate transportation exec's and politicians are. I'll get some info. soon. I know it's around. thanks..... :biggrin_25524:

Rail travel and "just in time" delivery schedules don't mesh.

This argument has been made several times and, as Ronno pointed out, it just won't make it in today's transportation industry. In many parts of the country (including areas near me) several railways have been removed. Sure this scenario might work in large industrial areas, which is where you see the most intermodal trucks anyway, but in more rural areas where you do see a lot of factories and distribution centers this just isn't feasible. Years ago probably 90% of all the factories and warehouses in America had rail spurs leading right up to their doors. Today I'd say that less than 30% have this capability and probably 40% of all manufacturing and warehousing facilities are more than 150 miles away from a major rail head.
