Been working for Giltner for the past several months. For the most part they keep me busy, although a lot of their runs originate or deliver in Californication. You'll run Donner Pass twice a week sometimes.

They put me in a brand new 2016 Freightliner Cascadia with a 12 speed automatic transmission. You can set it up to idle until it reaches a certain temp and then it will shut off.

Quite a few of their loads are multiple picks or drops, which can be a pain with elogs.

The pay is usually more than a $1000 a week take home direct deposit. They do charge you a $10 fee for a personal cash advance.

If you are not dispatched under a load your fuel card WILL NOT WORK!!! This can be frustrating at times. As well as there is a short two page list of fuel stops where your fuel card will work. Most states Giltner runs in only have 3 or 4 truckstops in the entire state where you can fill up with fuel.

Overall a decent place to work. You transflow in your bills and receipts and keep the originals for three months.

When I was hired on they said company drivers would start at 38 cents a mile, with fuel efficiency incentives offering up to 50 cents a mile. However, my paychecks have been 34% of gross plus 10% per diem.

Enjoy! The job is a pain in the ###, but I like payday every Monday morning. :)

I'm not saying Giltner is the greatest place in the world to work.

In talking to other Giltner drivers for the most part they haven't been working for Giltner that long and are contemplating if they should stick with it.

Sometimes Giltner gives you too much time on a load and other times not enough. I had to repower another drivers load and make a 2am delivery for her, and she said Giltner's dispatchers were incompetent. Another driver had to repower my load, and he said he had been driving for Giltner for 4 years and he was tired of repowering loads.

Another driver said that some of Giltner's dispatchers are absolutely worthless.

So basically all I'm saying is that Giltner will put you in a newer truck and keep you running to and from California.

As far as hometime or even getting back to Jerome for Safety and Maintenance issue's, the dispatchers don't seem to care and will actually lie their butts off.

This time of year, many loads originating or destined for western states and running cross country, will have an additional day or so added in to the appointment time to account for potential Wx delays. Also multiple drops are hard to schedule and rarely work in the driver's benefit, and keep everybody happy. Then there's what's available. It's tough scheduling appointments. Having said all that, sometimes an appointment is just screwed up. But in fairness, drivers sometimes can't be counted on to make tight appointments. So, what are they to do?

Now that winter is almost over driving for Giltner should improve a bit. There are times when they want you to get loaded in Aurora, Colorado and drive to Salt Lake City on icy roads In Wyoming at 2am with only 2 pallets in your trailer.

But at least I got good fuel mileage.

"Three or four truckstops in a whole state where you can fuel...?" Hmmmmm.....

Can't fuel unless you're under a load? I guess I'd be hitting the pumps just prior to arriving at the consignee, in that case.

At least you have a current CA inspection sticker, so it's not all bad.
