You can run a lot of days on recap. As long as you did not have a day in the previous 8 days that you only logged a couple hours total on duty.

Man I miss the days before the little computer told me when to drive!
I used loose leafs until last year and sure miss them!

Still using loose leaf here. And, when the ELD mandate hits our small company, I'm going to miss them, too.

ttyson and EZ Money Thank this.

So how is the mandate going to happen? We have a policy of sticking your head in the sand until someone kicks it.

Do I just keep running paper logs until the DOT shuts me down?

How the heck will this JJ Keller place stay in business?

I run on recap hours for weeks/months until its time for me to go home. I rarely take a 34hr reset unless I'm forced to.

Don't worry about JJ Keller. They have had EOBR system available for a while, and will have an ELD system to sell. Too bad it is a private company, if they had stock to sell I would purchase a lot.

I still do paper and fill out my recap section but I don't think I've ever ran on recaptured hours since my first true OTR job in 2011. The type of regional work i do now doesn't allow for it. I either have the hours available to do the run and get back or I sit home and wait to reset. In reality they usually run out of work for the week before I run out of hours anyway.

JJ Keller prints a lot more than log sheets. Who doesn't have a copy of the green rule book printed by them? :)

The time you took to do whatever didn't run against a time limit of work hours. Today, if you stop for over 3 hours, you are now cutting into available time to drive before the required 10. Judging by your response and reasoning, you might not have anything but the current rules to compare to. Just an opinion.

Correct "available" drive time, But its your choice to drive tired,or hungry, or stinky, because you dont want to eat up "availible" drive time.if lm hungry l stop and eat if lm sleepy l stop and nap,if l want to simply stop the truck and get out and walk,l will, If I used up any "available drive time doing those things, and I run out of drive time one hour before, drop off,oh well l take another 10 60 miles miles from the reciever..
