And the detour is up to an extra 4 hrs in length.
-
Is this a viable alternate:
I-70 to US285 to US50 to Grand Junction? Or should I stick with the posted detour up to Steamboat and Craig? -
It is a viable detour, be very careful on Monarch Pass, will add about 3 hrs to the drive with increased traffic

To get to Grand Junction I ended up taking I70 to CO9 to US40 to CO13. On the way back I saw the chain law was up for rabbit ears pass and Eisenhower, so I took US50 to US285. It got a little dicey near the top of monarch but all in all not a bad way to take.

I took the north route this morning which was a nightmare. Roads were pretty dicey due to the snowfall last night. Got clear of a reefer that turned over in the ditch and FedEx jack knifed and shut the road down. Wrecker guy thay came said they've been operating pretty much 24hrs a day.

The 40 to the 191 was a pain the ###!!
