From the first day of orientation they preach of communication and how important the driver is and you hear that for the full three days of orientation . Which I found was not true by any means , first week after orientation I delivered my load then proceeded to my pickup which went fine until I attempted to contact my dispatch to find that there is always a long hold time figured he must be real busy but got thru and let him know what time I would be at my delivery , thinking he could then set up the next load for me prior to getting to the delivery . To which his response was to call when I get there. So I did and he told me the load was not ready yet , so I suggested going to a rest area six miles away and was instructed to return to the yard and wait. So I did as instructed and upon arriving at the yard asked if there was anything else that I could take and was told there was not anything else . So even though I still had two hours of drive time I went into sleeper and then got up at two thirty in the morning for my dispatch informed me to check with night dispatch about and empty trailer which he told me which one and I hooked up . I then asked if my load was ready and was told it was not and to check back in an hour which I did every hour there after until 10 am when I found out that there was another load there and had been there the day before which they then assigned me to it and upon hooking to the trailer I find that the handle for the landing gear is not bolted on and there is no registration for the trailer , just like the trailer that I had before this one. So after sitting for 18 hours in the yard I managed to get out of there , to find when scaling out before fueling that I was 20 lbs from max weight , so I called to informed my dispatch that I would not be able to fill up and would have to make an extra stop for fuel . So I get to my delivery the next day letting my dispatch know hours before hoping to have something setup prior to delivering to find that he had something "YEEHAA" but he was unable to get the information to me for there was a problem with the Peoplenet system supposedly. So I went to a Loves close by and got the fax number and called my dispatch and after waiting 20 minutes to get an answer gave him the number and waited for him to fax it over 20 minutes later I find that my dispatch only faxed a cover sheet for it said page one of one which had nothing towards the load assignment . So I called my dispatch again waiting another 20 minutes for an answer , so I was upset and let him know that this week alone I have wasted over a day of driving time trying to get answers and loads and told him to forget the load since I can't get the information and I was running out of hours for the day. Which I was told to go ahead and head there for pickup by the planner even if I run out of hours , so I called the safety dept. got voice mail but she did call me back promptly unlike the operations manager which I have left 4 voice mails 4 times this week without response, so safety told me not to violate the 14 for any reason. So I then called the planner again and got his voice mail then contacted my dispatch after holding and informed him , then the planner called me back and I informed him . So back to the topic , communication is a lie and the drivers importance is a lie , was promised a truck they don't have , a lie. was told that the trucks are governed at 65 and then can be bumped up to 68 with cruise control , a lie . was told a lot of miles , a lie , was informed in orientation of lay over pay when out of drivers control , then found out from dispatch that I don't get it because it is one of their main customers , another lie . From what I have seen in just one week , the only dept. that did not lie is the safety dept.
RTI is full of lies.

You did the right thing OP, when the desk drivers tell you "it's okay to run over on hours" you say. "I cannot and will not" and talk to safety. I wonder how many drivers actually do violate HOS just because dispatch says it's ok...then when the driver gets in an accident and is found to be in violation it is purely the drivers fault. I would like to see every dispatcher fired over this crap!

Any company that wants a driver to violate the federal HOS rules is a company I wouldn't want to work for, period. It isn't worth the fines, points on the license or the JAIL TIME in a FEDERAL PRISON!
Rubberduckin and ttyson Thank this. -
We had a guy get to work earlier than normal because he was going on vacation. He got in super early so he could leave early. Well, he punched in 7 minutes too early. He didn't have the full 10 hours between shifts. Someone at corporate spotted it. He had to park his truck and stop what he was doing. Manager drove out to pick him up. I got my run done early and was asked to get his truck and bring it back to the barn. My company doesn't play around with the Las and regs, even if it seems over the top and you think it is so minor it doesn't matter. Not that driver and his manager have a ding against them. For 7 minutes!

the HOS are the drivers friend..
