Cancelled loads can be a deal breaker. Once a load was canceled, you could jump right on the board and find something equal or better. Now you might have to sit for a day.

My last load headed for home cancelled...ended up deadheading 300 miles to Charlotte for home time. Couldn't be late as my wife was leaving on a cruise with her sister. I'm taking the week off.

Retirement is just a day closer. I don't know when it'll be, but it's a day closer.

Overall, not bad. My numbers will never match those who run a lot of NE, but that's not my goal. My time is mine, my schedule...it works for me. Wife got a nice raise last year, so that helps.

But I will say this: I'll never be a company driver again. I love not being a OH/PA regional driver, though I did basically live on I-81 during the fall. Finally got the steering alignment straightened out and the truck has yet to have a mechanical breakdown in 122k miles. I'll make it to the end of my lease, but to be real honest...if I can walk away from trucking at that time, I'll do it in a New York minute. It's just not fun these days.

Glad to hear things are well overall.
Yeah I could never be a company driver again either, freedom and control holds soo much value.
    Don't be a stranger :headbang:

I'll try not to...but I'm growing more curmudgeonly as I age, so I try not to spread it around quite so much!

That's basically my game plan. Wife ( in 2 weeks anyway , going to Vegas to visit Elvis ), makes good dough. I like my hometime and have plans this summer. So I don't need to make 3000 a week. I'm happy doing my own schedule. That is priceless . company driver never again.....
