Hallo car haulers. Am movin on up to a stinger from high mount trailer. I picked it up last from cottrell and drove empty all the way to the east coast. The hardest thing ive had to get used to is the headrack. I have not loaded cars on it yet as am still working on registration and stuff. I surely could could use some tips on driving, loading or how you can tell the light is green by looking at the reflection on the hood etc. Thank you

You'll have to learn to sweep your corners or you'll catch a car in the pinch. Don't be afraid to stretch out in tight spots to avoid this. Dips are now your mortal enemy.

Depending on what trailer you have, learn the flexibility in your loading multi stop loads.

And you'll get to where you feel naked without something over the hood.

    Everything Hammer 166 said.
Your turning clearance between tractor and trailer has to be at least the length from elbow to hand for upper units. Obviously you need more space for upper units. Do a check turn after loading to ck your clearance.

If you have to turn where there is a dip, get out and raise decks or slide them to get more clearance or don't go there, you can total a car faster than you can say 'son of #####, wtf now!'

You won't be doing any tight freight hauler turns, some stingers have stops and once you hit them you're done turning. I have seen drivers that drove into the ditch because of this. Also those $300 SS gravel guards 'batwings' get crunched.

With some high rail stingers you can unload all the upper units on the tractor under the ones on the trailer or unload the whole truck under the upper rear deck. Lots of tricky stuff you'll figure out that I sometimes wonder is worth the time it takes to figure out.
