^^ Company sponsored training programs ; as long as you stay with x company for x amount of time after training there is no cost to the driver. Do your own research on these companies before signing anything though !!!!

in my opinion, you need otr to learn all the facets of the trucking industry. I work for hogan and drive day cabs, March is my 5th year driving. I have guys there with less than 6 months experience already doing local. When I started we had no choice but to do the 1 year otr. Now anyone can come and go directly to local.

I came straight out of school into my field. Never went otr. Just kept knocking on doors then someone finally opened one.

^^ Good for you . Like I said, not everybody lives where you live . Where I was living all those "doors" required experience , most times they wanted 3-5 years min. and didn't pay but $12 an hr anyway or $125 per day hauling logs . No thanks ,

I don't regret going otr, I've been in every lower state and have a ton of pictures that I otherwise would not have

yup that's true, new drivers can't handle otr. Family mostly for them. Understandable but if your single, no kids, not married, you can make tons of money doing otr. No rent, no electric bill, only big expense i have is my car payment. Eventually ill save enough and take a week off every 2-3 months working.

I've never had an apu but also never worked for a company that has idle restrictions. Always slept as good in the truck as at home.Never in my whole life have slept good anyway. Very common to shut down for a 10 hour break and not sleep a wink; just toss & turn, then do another 11 hours driving.

Good for you. There's tons of local jobs if people are motivated enough to knock on doors. Some food service companies are so desperate now they're hiring drivers that only have a cdl permit.
