Source - meta data accidently sent to me. I had no authority to see it but it was part of safety data I had asked for. It's also very rough math and over simplified. Also the assertion made by several ICs (yourself included) that 40% of ICs fail by the end of their first year. That makes me believe that those drivers could/did make more as a company driver or doing other work.

This gentleman stated he planned to live out of the truck and believed becoming an IC would net him more. It is possible for that to be true. However you and every other IC recommends that newbies get at least a year in and the reason you're still doing ok with how bad freight is right now is because of your experience.

Looking at his stated goals, from my perspective he would be better off as a company driver for three years as he begins his empire (please note there is no sarcasm, I fully support his ambitions). At that point if it still makes sense - jump in with both feet. No commercial lender I'm aware of will lend money to.someone who.just started a business to start a second business. I do know that truck finance companies will do the opposite. Get the RE side going, while learning the trucking business while 'tearing up' the company equipment, then buy a truck.

That 100k sounds nice but 1.5 years sounds nicer.

And the Goodlucks last about 6 months. Been there, done that. I got my own National account with Michelin.

Yeah the ICs that fail....... that's no income for them if they go in the hole and have their trucks repossessed
That certainly will throw averages off :biggrin_25524:

There's good company jobs are out there in the LTL field like ODFL, ABF and etc where $80k and a bunch of benefits are no problem. I ALMOST went that route.
An IC that knows what they're doing and are motivated can clear $100k+ after expenses if they wanted to, heck ICs on this forum working 2/3s of the year cleared $80K+ last year and that's with leasing a truck.
Then there will be ICs making peanuts or go in the hole.
Or experienced company drivers doing OTR for .32.

There is the potential to do very well or crappy as a company driver or IC and most often it's on them.

well that sounds nothing like the utube video sni has up where the guy shows you the load board and how you can search for loads, but before you assign a load to yourself you go and check which loads will be coming out of the area your going into, then if it all looks good you go back and assign that load to yourself, easy peasy lol!

Let me further explain what happened being it wasn't clear for you.
There was a new load posted that was drop and hook pick up at 2/25-2/25 15:31-15:31 and it was posted after 15:31 in the day.
I knew the customer and knew it was an open window pick up for a couple days but they entered it in wrong.
So I had that load opened and in a separate window had a load bring me right to that messed up appt load.
I called Schneider and they agreed they messed up and they changed the appointment over the phone with me.
Once they told me it was fixed I booked both loads back to back.
The time between them telling me the appointment was fixed me and me hitting "assign" on both loads might have taken 5 seconds. In the effffffing 5 seconds another driver beat me to the load.
When I clicked on the load after it was assigned to another driver his work assignment showed up on my screen and he was gonna deadhead 200 miles for that load. I was gonna deadhead 6 miles to it.
I bet some dkjarnoanerhaoidfbn driver was refreshing that screen with that load over and over again waiting to CS to fix the appointment while I was on the phone with Schneider to have to fixed it so I can get the load.
    Fun times! :biggrin_25510:

Los Lunas? Must be Walmart. Can't park at Walmart, can't park on the streets around Walmart, can't park at the Walmart store down the street. Los lunas hates trucks. A few miles away (10-15? North) is Isleta casino and is the best place for close by parking.
