Types of truckers passing me

I was refering to my other post where I was going 64 with 40,000 pounds and a fleet driver 62 with 20,000 pounds thinking he was gonna billybigrig pass me up on the incline. in that situation is it better for the slower truck to just stay behind rather than contribute to the problem of trucks running in the passing lane all the time when people need to know their limitations.

 

So, when I come up behind you on flat ground, at 1/2 mph faster, do you then back out of it for a minute to allow me to pass easily and get out of the way for those running faster than both of us?

 

I'm guessing no. From what I'm gathering according to scottied....he sets the speed you will run and if you happen to work for a company that goes 1 mph then what he is willing to run then that is your problem and you must fall back and run his speed instead.

 

I can just see a whole line of trucks all driving together at the same speed... All waiting for the lead to pull off so we can all hit the governor.

NO I do not slow down. Why should I? I posted a video earlier on this thread showing the proper passing technique. Proper passing does not include taking 2 miles to pass nor does it include expecting others to bow down to your princess ways and slow down for you.

 

Never really thought too much about passing. Don't worry about me, I'll get it done.

But what really gets me hot is cruise set +3 rolling up on Sally Sunshine in her Prius or Grandpa Gus pulling the 5th wheel, lay in some pedal & pull out to go around, look in the mirror- where the heck are they? Of course! Matching my speed now in the blind spot! Lay in a bunch of foot feed, get around and whoa it up to +3 again, and......... 5 miles down the road they are just a dot in the mirror.

 

That's the problem with this industry.

 

Most of the states are implementing Left Lane for Passing Only. I'm happy to see it. This is in anticipation of all trucks being governed to 65, they don't want snail races out there on the highways.

A big part of passing is not affecting the person you are passing. Remember we are supposed to keep 1 second of following distance for every 10 feet of our vehicle. 65 feet so round up to 7 seconds, After 40 miles per hour and above add one more second. If raining, add one more second. But for the most part 8 seconds is a fair following distance.

What happens is you have these drivers who cannot pass quickly and traffic piles up behind them. Then they feel this pressure to jump back over as soon as they clear the bumper of the passee goshbedarned if it creates only 2 second following distance for the passee, he will have to suck it and back down to the proper following distance. See where I say that is so rude?

So Passee slows down and here comes 14 more trucks smelling passing blood and the next 9 miles the passee who was previously minding his own business in cruise control is slowing up to ensure proper following distance for all these passing trucks. For the next 30 miles Passee is working to get to the front of the pack again either that or has to set his cruise slower the rest of the day.

The problem in the industry is these drivers who are claiming some kind of entitlement that they are some kind of special and deserve others to slow down for them when they want to pass creeping along the left passing lane .

If I ever pass and you flash your lights I will wait a few more seconds before I move back over

I don't flash lights because they can blind you and others or the power surge can shorten the life of my headlights. I'm an OO so I pay for those

 

I'm actually frightened that new drivers will read your posts in this thread and think you are right.
