Looking at the "This Is Party Row" post/thread, it occurs to me TTR needs to add a live chat module to the site. Has this ever been discussed by users or site owner?

Hey STexan, thanks for the suggestion. This comes up every year, so I've developed a stock answer:
There are a couple reasons that TruckersReport will not add a chat room:
1. Anything useful that is posted can not be found or referenced by users in the future, unlike permanent posts on the forum
2. The standards for behavior in a chat room tend to be pretty low, somewhat similar to CB chatter. It's the opposite of what we strive for with a community of professionals.Smut, Blackshack46, TequilaSunrise and 5 others Thank this. -
Ok. Fine by me. But the thread I refer to seems to be ran much like a "chat room" with a lot of "idle chat" that seems to mostly by done in "live rapid response fire" and as it is it's just full of a lot of "permanent stuff" that is meaningless in 24 hours, and certainly meaningless to anyone who happens upon the thread.
But, understood. -
Yes, we're on the same page, the Party Row thread you're talking about is very similar to a chat room and would work better with chat room software.

No offense intended, SS. I was commenting on the style of rapid-fire post/responses, not knocking the content.
scottlav46 and Straight Stacks Thank this. -
scottlav46 Thanks this.

Way back 20 years ago I used to use a chat program, not even sure it is still around, but there were thousands of chat channels within it and would'nt be too hard to set up a trucking chat channel on it and invite friends. It was this old dinosaur program called internet relay chat irc for short.
I think what happened most social websites stopped hosting the chat platforms because it was way too wild west. Then you'd have closed invite only chat rooms which became boring in their own way.
I got out of it in 2001 when my girlfriend and I broke up-- I had met her in one of those chat rooms a couple years prior. -
