No, they said in the letter issued to the dealerships that the shafts should start shipping within 4 weeks. In the interim, they will have a temp solution in place within the next couple of days.

Here's what Volvo identified as the problem:

 Volvo has identified other issues; the bolt connecting the upper steering shaft to the

lower steering shaft at the junction may not properly secure the upper steering shaft, and

 On some steering shafts, the pin that attaches the lower steering shaft to the junction

block may have not been installed by the supplier.

    Is there a fix?

     Yes,

 We will replace all two-piece steering shafts with a one piece steering shaft. We are

working to secure parts to support this activity.

 An interim (temporary) solution, which will allow for safe operation of the vehicle until

a one piece shaft has been installed, will be available.

    9) When will this be available?

 The interim solution will be available next week, the week of March 14, and will be

used to repair trucks so that they can be placed back in service.

 We expect to start receiving one piece shafts within the next 4 weeks. It will take some

time to acquire enough one-piece shafts to address all trucks in service.

Is there a recall number associated with this newest recall?

I have been tol by my company that they are paying for a rental, and the dealer here said they thought Volvo was paying. We'll see.

Either way, this is turning out to be a major cluster**** on Volvo's part. That, and the factory where these trucks are built are laying off about 735 employees.

I have heard 2 different stories. One person at volvo told me that volvo would not pay for rental truck . The other one told me keep your receipt and mail them into volvo and they will consider paying for rental.

This is not the first time Volvo has had issues with their steering shafts. They had a similar recall back in 2001. You'd think they'd learn.
