Reloaded and at the customer for the night. Will roll at 0300 to miss Baltimore and DC traffic. Things are looking up. All my loads this week are from one agent. Furthest I've been from my front porch is 241 miles. None of my freight has been offered on the board and it feels good to have most of the week planned. Tired tonight, lumber tarps all day and fighting 40 mph gusts.

Much appreciated. This is an agent that I've worked with before but I avoided working with him because 100% of his freight is tarped so and I try to be at a 50-50 if I can be. But after a few phone calls and talks I've basically dedicated my truck to his freight as long as the rates are strong, I'm compensated for tarping and we have an honest professional relationship I am completely okay with that. So yes I'm working harder, I'm sore tonight from working 6 tarps today but its not about me, it's about those at home that depend on me. So working a little harder, sweating more will be good for me.

Loading 41 miles from the house now, and then home for the night and back out at 0300. Zero out of route miles to go home. What's everyone doing today?

Heading to PA, unload in the morning, then ???

Sounds like you have figured out a good plan for you and your family. I hope it works out well for you.

On a side note, will you discuss something for me? Remember, I am much like you in that I have done nothing but drag a dry van but am interested in pulling a flatbed. You mentioned "Lumber Tarps". I have seen other types of tarps mentioned, maybe not in this thread but in others. Will you talk a little bit about the variety of tarps? I get the impression lumber tarps are heavy. Thanks for the education.

I'll chime in on the lumber tarps. They suck period. They are big heavy, about 120 pounds, and usually mean your climbing up on a tall load and fighting to get them up there with you to spread them out. They have an 8 foot drop which means they hang down 8 feet from the top of the load. Personally I keep the one I have in my side box on the trailer and that's where I try and keep it. Steel tarps are much easier to deal with they have a 4 foot drop and are only about 70 pounds. I jump at the no tarp loads of course but I'll do whatever it takes if the money's right. Thats just my personal feelings towards lumber tarps tho I'm sure others on here might think their no big deal

Excellent explanation. I have two 8 foot lumber tarps and two four foot steel tarps. We are issued two steel tarps and one lumber tarp because you can turn a four foot drop sideways and cover a 8' load. I bought another 8' because its easier dealing with it then turning them sideways. Lumber tarps are heavy and suck but its whatever pays the bills in my eyes. I never carry the lumber tarp onto the product or back onto the truck. Fork lift does it for me. Usually have no issues unless someone is a major issue with them.

I should mention that the weight of the tarps isn't a big concern really because all you have to do is unroll the tarp and lift and pull piece by piece if lifting it dead weight is too much. The more you do this the lighter they get.

Today has been a different day than normal. I unloaded in Maryland this morning and booked 5 84 mile loads for $550 to truck a pop. Lumber tarps.. I have the first one on the deck today I will deliver it in the Morning then deadhead back and grab another, then shut down because the receiver only takes loads from 9-3 which is stupid. So I'll deliver two of those by Friday morning bounce 40 miles and load to the house, reload Monday for Maryland then finish my short loads. All in all I will be at about $5850 to truck on about 2400ish miles and never went more than 241 miles from my home, never opened the load board, and I've seen my wife and baby a lot in the mean time. The cards are lining up, I'm motivated and ready to make profits. April goal is $22,500 in revenue to truck. So far I am on track for all of my revenue goals.

I hope every one is doing well!!
