We are an OTR team nearing the end of our lease and looking to leave Prime in the hopes of getting a bigger sleeper cab, since we live in it full time. We don't care about home time and like taking time in different places to explore and enjoy the country. It seems we can get a large sleeper cab and have payments less than our lease payment was at Prime. We would appreciate any advice on getting started with expediting and companies that are good to lease with, also what to look for in getting our truck.

I'm interested in what you have to say, but I'm also 55 yrs old. Is there any chance that if you use that fancy font, you could use one size larger...?

Seems like most of the advise there is to avoid the industry, there are to many drivers, and not enough freight.

So how well does it work for a single driver? I'm kinda intrigued, but it seems that the only way to make real money is to be part of a team. I do not want to be a part of a team. I like working alone.

My wife and I run as a team. We make great money and have a great time doing it. We stay out 4 to 6 weeks and home a week. Makes better financial sense than 3 out 1 home. Panther will negotiate terms with you. FDCC will not. They will do what it takes to make you profitable if you bargain with them. Our avg load miles run about 1000-1500 each. We’re running NJ to Phoenix AZ now. 2400+.
On the other hand, if you want to run solo, you probably won’t be as happy with expediting.
    Just my 2 cents.

Not a job....It's an ADVENTURE!!! Made 46,000 my first year with a fleet owner and brought the wife along and we love it! It is NOT for everyone and certainly NOT for LAZY folks and that is a fact! A job for the Homeless is a possibility tho since you sleep in your truck and almost never home.
