Not seeing any tire tracks in the grass. Wondering if he was airborn for a few seconds before impact.

You can't see the rest of the road , I'm guessing it bends left to our left

This happened at the witching hour just before sunrise like a lot of truck crashes happen where its baffling how the truck got to the point of the crash .

I believe they will find out the student who survived simply fell asleep . The first big off road bounce probably got him partially unseated preventing him from regaining control .

The mentor was probably in the bunk without the sleeping harness and didn't have a chance . One of the many reasons I wouldn't ever be comfortable training .

Sad all the way around for everyone involved . Imagine the lifetime load the 22 year old driver will have to carry ...

Doing everything they can to improve? Well now, How about if they would improve on the quality of their employee remuneration package? How about if they would actively encourage their senior drivers to stick around for a career? How about if they would actually use experienced drivers as trainers, (after classes on training, with periodic updates.) How about if they would flatly insist that trainers and trainees actually do TRAINING, rather than trying to work as teams.
Oh yeah, they sure are doing everything they can....
I'm sorry to pick you out like this scottied67. But this is one post that I just cannot ignore.

They help Swift's lawyers devise legal strategy before lawsuits start rolling in.

Ketchikan baby, Big Don, 7-UP and 3 others Thank this.
  8. Would they charge the trainee with vehicular manslaughter do to causing the death of his trainer?

Just not the way I want to go out. In the sleeper of a CMV

I M H O: when you are training a driver, the trainer should be in the passenger seat at all times. Running a student driver and a trainer as a team is the cause of the probem. When the student no longer needs supervsion, put him out solo and give him/her easier hauls. Continue the break in process.

It's a possibility. We'll have to wait and see what the investigation turns up. Vehicular manslaugther/homicide can't be ruled out.

Chris Dyer (The 22 y/o driver) is still at CMC and his current condition is unknown.

NB 1-85 at that location, does have a pretty significant bend in the highway towards the left just after the exit to the 29/49 connector.

You hit just about every nail on the head with your post. Like yourself, as for training, I have this "Control" thing as well. I couldn't do it either.

Condolences to the other drivers family and friends.
