$1800 gross every 2 weeks, minus $236 in insurance, then subtract 20-22% in taxes. That leaves a net of around $1200, and that is before any money I set aside for weekly road living. So that means my wife see's a $5-600/week check, for an OTR driver. That doesn't leave much to save back so I can take even a little home time. Seriously, I was making more than that 13 years ago when I got rid of my own truck and drove a company truck for Crete (back when they were a decent place to work, not the micromanaging nemisis they are today). Seriously, if anyone is content averaging less than $2500 per month net as an OTR driver spending 300+ days a year on the road....more power to ya'. But I see local/regional gig's all over the place making that kind of money, why would a person want to spend weeks and months away from home for the same money they could make sleeping in their own bed every week. Don't get me wrong, if ya' love working here, great, I wish you all the success in the world. But most drivers don't work for a place just because they have shiny equipment and get a welcoming smile whenever they walk in the door, they work for a place to make a decent living, and most experienced OTR drivers wouldn't consider these paychecks a decent living.
And before my 'hater' fans start...To answer your request about moving on, I will be, once my wife gets over this respiratory crap she has so they can operate on her knee, I am counting the days!mladen86, Wheeler0811 and 4mer trucker Thank this. -

Actually I take that back. I did get one load to Washington.
Of course it got "cancelled" and I got sent to Maryland. Again. -
SSB, it sucks that Magnum is not working out for you. It sounds like you have looked at local driving jobs and that my be a better avenue for you. OTR is some what of a tough way to make ends meet if the ends have no beginnings. You been out here, I don't need to preach. Good luck to you. Hope your wife gets better and that your path in this world gets better. God bless.
carramrod32 and ncmickey Thank this. -
On another note;
All this talk about bathrooms and gender identities here in NC has really got me thinking. Since people can now change their sex by deciding they identify with another i have come to the conclusion that it should be acceptable to job identify too. So from now on I have decided that I shall now identify my profession as Bat Man.
If you don't accept my occupational identity you are a racist bigot who is suppressing my right to "employment identity".
Na na na na na na na nahhhhh!mxpx148, Lone Ranger 13, enicolasy and 3 others Thank this. -
Been sitting in a door at Kraft foods in Champaign IL for 4 and a half hours now. Got here early and another hour till I can start charging detention. Killing my clock.

Enjoyed having dinner with @Xeres63 tonight in Indiana, up to Eagan for the weekend and then to Kent WA next week, hopefully with a backhaul to Texas for some warm weather!

And today on 94, heading to CR, mm 51 right before the westbound weigh station, a guy in a mini van passed me and he was naked as the day he was born flopping his tallywhacker around like it was the thing to do, I had to do a double take. No clothes, van had crap everywhere in it. Grossest thing I've seen so far .
tucker Thanks this.
