Truck driver rescued from dangling rig after three-vehicle crash on Highway 370
    [IMG]
A three-vehicle crash on Highway 370 in St. Charles County left a tractor trailer dangling on an overpass.

The accident just west of the Discovery Bridge happened in the rain shortly after noon on Wednesday.

Police said the driver of a Pontiac GC attempted to change lanes while heading east on the highway and lost control of his car, striking a Ford Fusion. The driver of the tractor trailer braked suddenly and swerved in an attempt to avoid the two vehicles in front of him.

The truck struck the back of both cars, overturned onto its driver side and went off the right side of the road. The cab of the truck ended up dangling off the highway overpass.

Nick Hargis of Troy, Mo., saw the crash happen in front of him and stopped to help. Along with two other motorists, they used tow straps Hargis had in his truck to help pull truck driver Michael R. Coleman up onto the highway.

Coleman was climbing out of the cab as the motorists lowered the straps.

"He wasn't hurt. I told him just to sit there," Hargis said. Coleman, 50, of Kansas City, Mo., was able to get one of the straps around his chest and Hargis and the two other motorists who stopped to help pulled the truck driver to safety.

I want you guys to look closely at that picture. Now try to wrap your head around how twisted up that truck is. Unless my eyes decieve me, we are looking at the BOTTOM of the drives, dirty side down. AND the TOP of the cab... facing the same way. That is some #### tough hardware right there.

You are right. Sure isn't much preventing the cab from completely seperating from the rest of the truck. Lucky man.
