    To my fellow owner-operators

Who within this forum hauls automobiles (whether you're doing it under your own authority or leased on to a carrier), hows business in that sector? Could a guy do just as good with a 7/9 car trailer versus a stinger unit?

I use to do towing years ago and got out of it because in my small town, I got tired of fighting with the other 9 towing companies in the area over a wrecked car. The owner of that company back then was considering getting into the auto transport sector but backed out of it because of he needed to cut cost. I am currently pulling a van and considering the auto transport business but wanted to get some feedback from people that's in the business already.

Just a little note, I am domiciled in Southeast Texas and possibly will be relocating to East Texas of Fort Worth.

You could do well in carhaul with a 7-9 car highmount, but not in TX lol. TX is like FL, you make #### sure you make your money going in, because it's going to suck leaving

My husband is currently in that game and is about to crawl out! It's dead down here. We live in Oklahoma, leased to a company with empty promises. They are also the type of company that won't help you if you get in a bind. Stay tuned because I will do a complete detailed review of our experience with this company in the "bad companies" forum.
Just if you do get into it, go with a huge company that has been doing it for years. I wouldn't go with one that you've never heard of. Not right now with the economy the way it is. Northeast is about the only place moving anything right now, and that just sucks! We are just biding our time until hauling oilfield pipe is back in the works so we can climb back up where we were! Good luck driver!

What kind of help are you asking for when you are in a bind?

Additional things about a stinger setup to watch out for is your turning radius. If the cars are too close to each other or are too close to the ramps you can damage the bumpers when you're turning. If you're thinking about the 10 car stinger getting your "triangle" right is going to be extra work every time you want to move 10 cars. Trying to load 10 cars and get your "triangle" is going to suck in the rain and snow every time. Another thing not mentioned frequently is when you load the car "how you gonna get out?" I think you're going to cut it too close money wise going with a 7 car. I'd go with a sun valley easy 8 or similar with a head rack to haul 9 cars or 8 cars easy versus a stinger unit.
