Wow, I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread. Thank you Blair for posting your experiences, and Old Man for sharing your wisdom. There are a few others in here that I pay attention to as well. I am doing my research at becoming an owner operator. I've been a company driver for various companies for 9 years, and I've been flatbedding for the past 3 years. I definitely want to go flatbed, I just need to do a little more research, put some money away, and fix my credit. Thanks again y'all!

If you are serious about buying a truck, i would suggest looking up Dave ramsey. Put yourself on the type of budget that make your friends laugh at you. You'd be surprised how much money you can sock away when you stop spending it on stiff you don't need. It just takes an iron will.

In did that for a few years. Only problem is now I'll walk out of stores without buying anything because I talk myself out of everything.

Not so hilarious - it's become ingrained in me. I lived paycheck to paycheck until I was 20, and pretty frugally till now.

Now I find it fairly difficult to buy things my brain doesn't deem necessary - clothes, shoes etc. The 'It's for the business' excuse didn't last long either - she's been keeping me on company driver wages and we've been juuuuuuuuust living off that, as I've only ran 24k miles so far this year.

Blair, what led you to do flatbed with LS? How was the transition? Would you do it the same, given another chance?

    Grijon and blairandgretchen Thank this.

I finally let loose a little bit after my mortgage was approved. Still spending $100 on something I know I don't really need nagged at me. But screw it you only live once. Now I have some really comfortable shoes. Also when I see all my shuflrts have holes in them I have to go shopping as much as I hate it lol.

I'm a fat guy so Payless shoes really don't pay, no half baked pun intended. If I don't get decent shoes they go to hell right quick. But I hear ya with just about everthing else...

    fordconvert and Dominick253 Thank this.
