Hello everyone,
I am confused about my situation..so any advice will be greatly.appreciated. i have class A license from almost 7 years ago. But i have no experience driving like none at all..now i have decided to go back to truck driving but don't know where to start. Should i go to truck driving school or get a refresher course at one of the big companies?
I have read a couple of posts from other guys and my question is that if I take a refresher course at one of the companies and don't want to work with them after the refresher course what happens?
Also I was looking into applying at WESTERN EXPRESS??
Or do you guys suggest something else
thank you for your help in advance I appreciate your advice
Need advice please!!

Are you in Los Angeles?
Where is your city/state. We need to know the hiring area you live in. Yes, you're pretty much starting over except you're way ahead by still having your cdl. -
western express used to be known as one of the worst bottom feeders on the road. I'm not sure about now as I've been off the road for a year and living in florida so i don't see them often. i remember when they couldn't go by a scale in Maine because of a a small problem of most of trailers were not registered and they were in some nasty wreck up that way 1 or 2 killing state troopers and i believe one killing like 5 people..... i used to hide behind these guys when i knew i was overweight because 9 times out of 10 they would get pulled out back before i was. again it could of changed.
as far as your refresher usually when you do it through a company you have to sign a contract and if you leave they charge you big money for the refresher.
best advice go to your local Accreditted cdl school and pay for it yourself then try and find a small carrier to get on with either local or OTR they are your best chance. most bigger carriers want 1-2 years OTR EXP if you already have your CDL.
if your hell bent on finding a large OTR company right off the bat and dont have the funds i guess your only choice is to sign a contract and driver for one but really do your research -

Quick question how much do the companies charge if you dont work with them?

Southern Refrigerated Transport runs hard coast to coast.
There's probably a dozen to choose from.
Try KKW Trucking Company also. They run western states and Texas. They'll probably hire you since you already have a cdl.
@rupipalsingh4mer trucker Thanks this. -
