Old Truckin' Bozo always wondered why truck makers didn't go the same route as trains as far as the electric motors on the wheels. Now a ruskie has done what the US truck makers resisted doing. The one problem, trains run on smoothe (ish) tracks. I wonder how durable those motors are when subjected to the constand pounding of our roads...and the constant attack of chemical ice melt solution in winter.

The cost and size is what prevents it to be practical on trucks. Those electric drive motors on trains are big, heavy and very expensive. And you still need an engine or turbine to produce that electric energy. It works on a train because they move so much capacity. Several hundred truck loads of product every time it moves paying for that cost. Not so much for a truck moving 22 tons.
