Not bad for a starter, esp if they have a terminal close by... Do you need training? Where are you located? What type of freight do you want to pull?

On the bulk side you can expect low pay and low miles and 60 mph trucks

    Jeff2011 and DsquareD Thank this.

If you like lots of rules about rules, then yes.

If you like waiting on hold, then yes

If you like complicated metrics to get quarterly bonuses, then yes.

If you like sitting in your truck (i.e. Not driving) over the weekend away from home, then yes.

If you want a truck that automatically slams on the brakes when going under an overpass, then yes.

If you like driving 60 MPH in a 70, then yes.

If you like being the brunt of all the sarcastic comments on the CB within a 5 mile radius of your truck, then yes.

Don't forget that the osr's look at you funny if you're a tanker driver and you're wearing a short sleeve short in 90° weather.

The bulk division is difficult. You'll spend a lot of time at the tank wash and won't get paid for it. And then the tank wash may give you an attitude if you bring too many hoses like you can help it. Detention pay is only $10/hr.

SNI has gone from a company you could retire from to one you start with and move on. I'm a lease op there now, but was a company driver from 2007 until 1-2012.

Much of what DsquareD said above is correct. The bonus program is downright silly. There is too much babysitting overall. But if you're starting out, you can do worse.

I lease here because after 20 years of this crap, I'm going where I want to go, not going where I don't want to go, and I can visit my aging parents in CA a few times a year (I live in SC). I make OK money and don't work all that hard. My wife has a good job, we own a rental house, and we get a yearly payment for some old family property, so this isn't my only source for bread and butter. I'm also not governed...something that I will never subject myself to ever again..or at least not to 62.

    Good luck to you.

    DsquareD Thanks this.
