Who you work for in Vegas? I'm heading there in a couple of weeks. I'll be working for Williams Tank Lines. Worked for them in the past for 5 years.

Just updated my profile. I moved to Seattle. After ten years in Vegas it was time for a change.

And to answer the question about the scully issue...I don't know what happened. The tank chart provided by my company showed the compartment having a capacity of 3350 for avgas. For some reason at 3336 the probe got wet. I know for sure the tank was empty because we bucket drained each compartment, internals open and nothing more was coming out. The rack operator said our paperwork was wrong because we were using an old truck with a tank mounted probe instead of a dome mounted probe. He said things were measured wrong and locked the truck out. I would've been willing to believe him, but at least half a dozen other drivers have claimed to load 3350 of avgas from the same rack. So I don't know....I do know I don't plan on loading more than 3300 in that compartment in the future.

On your trailer somewhere most likely on the frame on the drivers side your find a medal tag that tells you how much the compartment will hold. If you can find it that's the best info you'll get.

I personally did not like this job. Too much labor. And so repetitive holy cow. Gas station, fuel bank, gas station, fuel bank. Over and over. BORING. Not to mention huge danger. In my city pedestrians walk into the street without looking all the time. There's always the risk of crushing someone with the train. It's happened several times. Plus some gas stations are sketchy at night. An assault is always possible. Not to mention the possibility of mixing product at 2 am when fatigue sets in, destroying $ thousands worth of fuel. You'd think you'd never do it but it can happen easily. Plus I don't know about you guys but I'm acne prone. Getting gas in diesel on my skin does not help. Can't say I love breathing in fuel fumes every day either. All for mediocre pay, tuff to crack $100k doing this.

It's gotta be done, hats off to the fuel pros who do this every day. But 6 months was enuff for me... Wouldn't go back.

Yeah, it is quite labor intensive. There are easier jobs that pay better, considering what most common carriers might pay--using an OT exemption, etc. If you get on with one of those mediocre common carriers, it's probably even best to use this job as a stepping stone--which it will be an excellent stepping stone to an exceptional (and easy) job.

I was just the opposite. I felt I had the pulse of the city and enjoyed what went on. Sure you have to have your head on a swivel and be aware of what is going on around you but that with just about any other job too. It may have been boring to you but for me there was just to much going on with the job to be bored. Plus back when I was driving you got paid very well not like today where the book smarts dudes have the companies convinced that hauling gasoline is just a truck drivers job. There was just too much you had to know and you should be paid a higher wage. After all the drivers hauling general freight do not need to know all the characteristics of the product and be well trained on how to respond to a problem. Plus I liked the three days off every week.

Gasoline has vapors not fumes. Vapors are a gas and fumes are a particle. Drivers should know and I have for years said fumes too.
