This is kind of the opposite of how urinal etiquette works. Here we want to bunch together and leave the big blocks of open spaces

It's just a good thing to do. I can roll through any truck stop at 2AM hand in front of your face dark, tired, and I will park cause I can get into the hole.
But there's a lot of guys, a lot of guys, that need the space even at an early shut down time. And typically its the guys that need the space, that are the ones that park in the middle of the 4 openings, instead of taking ONE extra minute, and sliding over.

What boggles me is when I'm parked and there are TWO open spaces to my right, the next guy coming in gets so close to my tractor I couldn't fit a $1 cheeseburger between my mirror and his trailer. I'm like wtf?

Just push her into the other OPEN space by half a tire and then scooch her back over once your in. I get it if it's a tight fit for you with me and another tractor on the other side of the hole, but with another empty space on the blindside there is no reason I should be able to touch your trailer out of my passenger window.

That's just self preservation. He is giving the guy who parks next to him maximum space to get in the hole without taking mirrors off. I have done that then centered the truck later when the next guy shows up.

No, I'm not talking about parking that close. I'm talking about backing into his space and getting that close to me when there is ample space on his blindside.

9 out of 10 are probably fatigued & thus paranoid. 99 out 100 don't realize they have a solid 8" of space and will still clear their blindside. It's just they know for certainty what they can see, and don't want to chance the blindside.

One time I took a break bobtail and decided not to back in beside the other guy so we could each look around without staring through each other's window, and then I wake up and that guy's gone but some other guy's now staring through my window, because he just had to park the same way as me.

I always try to park as far from reefers as I can. We all know that reefer is illegal. I worry that that FBI might raid that truck during the night and make all kinds of noise searching his truck and trailer. Heck, they might even wake me up for a search thinking I'm a decoy.
