Dont haul much over here on the east coast, been years since I have been over here. Loading just east of Emporia on US 58 for Johnson City TN. Once loaded my weight will be close to 80,000, just looking for the most efficient route WITHOUT racking up a bunch of miles and not something with a bunch of steep grades.

Best and quickest route: I85 south to 40 west to bus40 to 52 north to 74 west to 77 north to 81 south to 26 east to Johnson City. Its about 40 miles further than shortest route but youd be on secondary roads on most of the shortest route.

I think your best route would be 58 west to I 85 south to Greensboro, then I 40 west to Asheville, then I 26 west to J' City. You have Black Mountain on I 40 and another mountain on I 26, but they are good roads. US 421 and 321 are no joke west of Boone. And, US 58 is restricted to max 65FT length west of Stuart, VA

You are right about 421/321. Would take all nite to go that way. Only mountain you got going my route is Fancy Gap. If you go up 26 better hold your speed down coming off that last mountain, Tn will burn you.

Or if you don't really want to hit any mountains….just take US 58 all the way to martinsville then jump on US 220 to Roanoke to I81 south…easy..
