Anyone know how to have an overseas CDL recognized in the USA?

So, I moved over to Australian 16 years ago and married an Aussie. Marriage has gone south and I'm looking at coming back to the US (south Mississippi) and wanted to know if any state would recognize the fact I've held a CDL-A or equivalent since I was 21.

If not, can anyone recommend a company / school so I can get back in the saddle over there? I spent 11 years OTR in the US, been doing mostly local stuff here in Australia. Would anyone hire me, or would I have to start over from scratch?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice y'all can provide. Much appreciated.

Probably have to do a refresher course at least.
You will need a Mississippi address for your new cdl.
KLLM has refresher and also the full cdl program. They're in Mississippi, so that simplifies it for you.
Their website has information about all this.

Edit : since you've been away, KLLM purchased FFE(Frozen Food Express)

Wow, FFE bought out by KLLM.

I guess I could go back into reefers to get my CDL back, but I hope I don't have to haul frozen yard birds again. I did it for 3 years and I wouldn't eat chicken for 7 years after that. Even now I rarely eat it. Lol.

I'm more of a skateboard or drop deck kind of person.

Thanks for the heads up Chinatown.

Talk to Howard Transportation in Mississippi.
You may remember they haul dedicated freight for Howard Industries.
150 trucks pulling flatbed out of 4 terminals. This is all on their website.

Oh, they're still going. Thanks, didn't know that, but I may have to look hard at KLLM since I'll be coming back to the US more or less flat broke due to the soon to be ex taking everything.

    I will have a look though. :)

I think that any of the training carriers could help you get back in the driver's seat. Millis, Roehl, Swift, CRST are a few. Since you have been driving for a number of years, I doubt you would need to spend much time with a trainer before they would cut you loose. It is a shame that you will not be able to just turn in your Australian license and exchange it for a U.S. CDL. I recall U.S. Xpress worked with a driver from Europe to get his CDL in the U.S. I don't recall all the details.

Yeah G/MAN, Australia recognized my license from the US here, did a two day refresher / update for Australian road rules and such and then was turned loose. Shame the US doesn't do the same.
