Fungi and algae are 2 different "animals". Algae needs light, fungi doesn't. The mushrooms on your salad were grown in a dark environment, they are fungi.

Update on bad fuel saga. Had the shop pull one of the filters off today to check since I quit fuel at loves, guess what? Clean fuel no dirty filters no black junk in my fuel now. Bye bye loves bad fuel, no fueling at loves ever again cheap crappy fuel.

It might still have been a one-off where you happened to be there fueling at an unusual time. There's plenty of large fleets who only fuel at Loves. Can't imagine them doing that if they were having chronic fuel related issues.

That said. If Loves used bio-blends that were typically even just slightly higher than other chains, that would be enough to have me avoid them.

Most any place selling B5to B20 blends no longer states a percentage. Used to be able to get B2 in MN, and they complained about that.

Only place I ever got bad fuel was from a TA, and normally, they had better fuel from what I have seen out here, but not enough difference to make it worthwhile to drive out of route by much.

It was a preferred stop, and I didn't make it 50 miles before having to call for help, new fuel filter, and all kinds of electrical issues so I'm not sure why it shut down, but that filter looked like it was dipped in asphalt cement. I didn't buy any fuel there again until it became a corporate store and changed to Petro.

2000 Columbia with low rated ISX, and lower micron filter. It was a biological, and it took all the rest of the winter of crap in the tanks, as the company higher ups wouldn't treat something they didn't believe existed, head mechanic, notwithstanding. Had all kinds of fun with that piece of junk, and not because it was a Columbia, but because of not addressing the problems in it's long history. Spring came, and I was able to purge it by running the tanks low repeatedly and the high temp of the returned fuel(hot enough to burn you) killed them off and there was no longer any evidence of them.

The bad fuel,/microbe problem was just additional icing on a crappy cake.

Some things learned from my days at Chevron.

The Brand name on the station has very little to do with whats in the tanks. The only difference is the additive package that brand has, and even those are not that different.

The companies have supply trade agreements all over the country.
