@Pintlehook ... Thanks for your reply about representing your Union... Best pro Union response I have heard in a very long time.

And that probably says more about you personally than anything.

Because companies like that would rather have an outside contractor with lower labor costs do the work(a.k.a. CHEAP LABOR).

The lumper charges say 300$ to unload the trailer, most companies know that receiver charges that much, built it into the load (customer pays it any way) . Now was it cheaper to be bill 300$ six times a day , or pay the guy 30$ a hour for 10 hours?

Grocery in trucking is one and same. If it involves lumping call it a grocery. We can argue the fine details of what it is or what it's not. Perishable or Dry Grocery side. till the cows come home.

Ask your company, nay. Demand detention time pay. If you are gonna baby sit your load because a bunch of illegals who cannot stand to be paid 300 dollars a trailer serveral times a day go on strike eff them. Write the name of the reciever down on a black book and refuse those loads ever again from anyone who tries to send you there.

Or better yet, get away from Reefer and into something else that wont send you to these stupid infanile labor #### places...

I have a reason for showing some edge. I spent a good part of my life in many of these places, breaking my back moving 48K out of the box every day or night and sometimes TWICE loading and unloading. I have no feelings what so ever for the over paid crybabies that strike when they feel owie in the afternoon.

I have a good question for you van/reefer guys..

Lets say you have a delivery at these Lumper/grocery houses and they REFUSED to let you unload it yourself, Because you Felt $300 was too much (Which it is) to pay for unloading......

Do you stand firm, on your belief, Or do you give in and pay that fee?

Or Better Yet ,Another scenario, lets simplify it eve more........Your in the Dock and You don't even want to unload it yourself NOR pay a Lumper....

    Stand up? Or Give in?

Do you Take 1 for the team (like I would) and test their Bluff in Refusing product they will need?

Company Driver here... I get paid to drive the product from Point A to Point B... Who loads/unloads the product isn't my concern... If my company wants the product unloaded then that is up to them ... it's built into the cost of shipping. The end cost, whatever it is made up of, is still passed along to the ultimate buyer, the end consumer.

I bump the dock and write a check.
And request detention time beyond 2 hours.

Nope... And even if it was "my own money" that cost would have been calculated into the shipping charges for that delivery... just like fuel and other expenses.

I am sitting at a place now waiting to be unloaded by lumpers... I had the option to unload it but we are a no touch shipper.

So I just write the check.

    You asked... :)
