What part of "That doesn't mean that a trucking company can't ask the camera, at any point in time, to send its current data up to them." did you not understand?

And the other 98% of your post was the same old same old about bandwidth/encoding/etc. I don't need any lessons on these subjects, but thanks.

My original post was in response to you where you had written this:
You wrote that in response to a IronWeasel saying that "they" (trucking companies) can't just watch even one driver all the time (without an expense). That post of yours basically denied the truth of what IronWeasel said, i.e. "no proof of anything".

So I provided the proofs for you, and then you claim to already know it all (or is it that you just don't care because you just want to whine?).

So which is it, was IronWeasel right (trucking company can't afford to watch all the time), or did you not know the technical limitations?

Your posts seem to be claiming that they (truck owners) can watch the driver and insinuating that they can watch all the drivers all the time.

That's spreading speculation, which my analysis of the technology has proven that it would be very expensive (cell phone minutes all the time for all the trucks).

I might have to start a poll to see the correlation between grouchy drivers and camera haters.

You provided nothing that wasn't already said.

The cost of bandwidth could just be a tax write off as a business expense for these companies. Anything that the cameras can't do now is just a software/firmware update away.

And you have no idea what they can already do, either. Or, if you do, put it up. Show some definite proof.

But I am betting your next post will be just as useful as your last.

Software can't change the laws of physics, which is what a radio signal is. The math guys have done an amazing job on squeezing information into a cell phone radio signal.

As my prior post indicated, low-quality video will take about 1Mbps. So 8 hours of video is about 4GB of data (higher quality video is about 2GB an hour). Best cell phone data rate I can find right now is $100 for 18GB (lots of companies doing 10GB or 15GB for $100). That's $25 for 8 hours of video, so $150 a week.

If I owned a truck and I thought my driver might be texting or posting while driving, it might be worth $600 a month to find out. A tax write-off isn't of any use if you're losing money. Even at a 50% tax rate, I'd rather keep $100 rather than spend the $50 (with a 50$ tax credit) to watch you pick your nose.

I have been truck driving for 12 months and I love it. I started with CR England in February 2015. Now that I know what I know I wish that I took another route to get my CDL. CR England paid me .14 cents per mile and they put me under a contract which prevented me from getting another job while I was under their employment contract or I could buy them out of the contract by paying them the sum of $7,500. Needless to say I didn't have $7,500 laying around. So I stuck it out and fulfilled my contract over 9 months. I am OTR driving 48 states. When my contract was completed I quit the next Following day and joined Swit with no contract because I did not attend their school I worked for Swift for 3 months. Now I have 12 experience with a perfect drivingrecord I am now moving to a new company that pays .38 cents per mile. The good news is that with this company I only needed 3 months of experience to be hired. They allow me to have my pet on the truck with me if I choose. I will drive Western Regional with 14 days on and 3 days off. I think I will enjoy working for the new company. In fact I would like to bring along a rider for 14 days so the rider could see what trucking entails.

Probably like the black box on passenger jets, it's on a loop constantly erasing and recording.
