If not practical miles, what do they pay?

I didn't think it was too bad. I thought it was closer to practical miles than short miles. But when you pull a lot of short loads it can add up. Losing 20 miles on a 1000 mile run isn't the same as losing 20 miles 4 times on 4 250 mile runs.

The same thing happened to me,I hit the 2 year mark and everything went to hell in a handbasket,I was based out of Deason,it started slowly going down hill, a lot of short hauls around muddle Tennessee, wasting all day running 3 loads and only getting 300 or so miles, loads that live load and unload with 3 days to run 750 miles, I went home every 3 weeks, then on the day I was due v home for hometime,God forbid if you went in with hours to run on the day you were due in,3-4 shorts hauls with live load/unload,4 times they ran me out of hours 45 miles from home and I had to wait til the next day to get home, overall Big G Express was,and probally still is a good company, but the culture is changing since they hired a mega carrier shill to run the day to day,I think they are losing some freight, sources tell me that they haven't done a Vijon in months,(some folks might be happy about that i.e. 4-5 hour unloads at grocery/drug store dc)and not as many Bridgestone loads, those were big contracts for them,This is just my opinion, some are doing well there but TTR is also about objectivity

My buddy in East Tennessee that drives for Big G said his miles dropped to 9300 in May. I would speculate that as existing contracts expire with Dry Van Carriers that the shipper's are going to have leverage and competition is going to be fierce. The market has unquestionable been in a downturn. The Spot market guys have been feeling it for a good year now. Best if everyone prepares for the possibility of some lean times ahead.

I believe you have a very good point there.

I have also found that things get tight during an election year then no matter who wins the wheels get to turning again..
