All my loads are under 250 miles no matter what. For example let's say I unloaded in Charlotte NC at 8am this morning. I picked up a Load from there going to pineville which is about 50-60 miles. Took 2 hours to pick up, drive and deliver paid 400. Then I picked up a load from Rock Hill, 20 miles away going just north of Charlotte that comes off at midnight that pays 450. So 160 miles paid me 850. That's deadhead included. That's $5 a mile. And when ever I call in on a load I tell them exactly what I want to make. Under 50 miles I need 7-10 a mile. Under 100 miles I need 4-7 a mile. Under 250 miles I need between 2-4 a mile. I stick to my guns and don't back down

I think I used the wrong term when I said leased on. I was under a contract where they found loads for me and paid me weekly but I pulled their trailers and had my own authority and such. Basically they were dispatcher, factoring company and trailer leasing company all in one. The loads were crap and the pay was horrible which is why I left. I only did it because I was just starting off and didn't understand the load board

Thanks driver I definitely appreciate it. Just passed my 3rd month of driving and I love it. I also love the fact that I'm driving a Peterbilt, makes being out on the road a lot better.

I got you, as long as it works for you that's what counts. Keep in mind though, some states require Intrastate Authority to pick up a load and deliver it in their state. This is in addition to your Interstate Authority. I have done it many times back in the day without Intrastate. Texas used to be bad about writing tickets for not having Intrastate.

PacManTrap, RERM and Terry270 Thank this.

Great post. I am also new and want to get in just like you. Can you tell me about your insurance? Did you have to pay all the 20k upfront?

Pac Man I used to haul doors to a company in Barclay seems like it was every other week I had a load going there. I liked crossing the bay bridge and going to the eastern side of Maryland. Lots of loads coming out of Baltimore you probably get home as often as you like.
