Alright if someone don't know something they ask if it was that easy I wouldn't be asking for help really....I don't have the experience like you all haven't done it never done roofing before only wrap present during Christmas time so again I'm willing to learn just need to be shown

 

No you don't need to be shown. That's my entire point. Use your head and think! If you have ever made your bed in the morning, or wrapped a gift in your life, you have the knowledge. Its the exact same thing only bigger and the tarps are heavier than bedsheets. But it's the same principle.

Go get the load on, secure it, put your tarps on it and unroll them. Tuck the sides up and fold your corners.

 

What u just said I did that tarp kept coming off I folded the ends I finally put straps across the tarps

 

Looks like I'll be I orentation next Wednesday, I'm anxious to book that first load . I'm tired of my bussiness account only going down .

Mabye I'll run in to a few of you . After reading most of this thread I feel like I know some of you real well .

All that was being said is tarping is only as hard as you make it. When I pulled tankers & flat in the oil fields I was the same way. I must have done 50 loads no tarp before I finally had to bust out a tarp. I was nervous & I made it more of a headache then it had to be. It took me hours thinking it had to be perfect like the guys that have been out here longer than I have been alive.

After a few loads it was a 30 min deal & I was rolling. I set myself up for failure by sikeing myself out. Just like the 1st time I had to chain rig equipment, I didn't feel like I secured it right. I was doubting myself. In reality I was safe and over secured it. It's all mental & you will figure out your own way of doing things out there.

Don't stress out, just go with the flow and it will come natural in time. Or just don't book tarp loads.

 

Thanks I really want to learn it I got the strapping down haven't done any binders yet..I was so frustrated yesterday an part of today kept pulling over tucking lost a lot of bungies I even had a maverick driver help me at a truck stop he helped out alot....I'll get it I'm not a quitter at all...

 

Ok so I'm new to flatbed and Mercer my self...

I also have 8 foot lumber tarps (you know those giant heavy beasts with tons of d-rings?)

Here's what I did when I accepted a tarp load (actually accepted 4 of them in one day, delivered 3 one day, delivered the 4th the next)

I hopped my plump ### up on my flatbed and rolled out my tarp, tried tucking in the sides as I was using bungees to keep it in place and just basically used almost every bungee I had available on the truck to keep the tarp on the flat bed.

After a few rips and some patching I've figured out ways that WORK BETTER FOR ME.

Well... I broke my dash speed tach I taped it to get the light to come back on. Guess I taped it to hard n broke the plastic that goes over it lol... still works though

 

Im going to post some tips for tarping .

If you have 1 tarp put a bungee on each corner of each tarp . By corner I mean the front and back and lowest d-ring or grommet above the rub rail .
hook that bungee to a d-ring or grommet and and pull outwards away from the tarp. there should be tension across the whole bottom of the tarp now . Always start at the middle of the tarp , tuck your excess tarp underneath and put a bungee to hold it . You only need 1 or 2 in the middle . Do this on both sides . This method will help keep your tarp straight .

If you are doing multiple tarps , put a bungee on each corner of each tarp . By corner I mean the front and back and lowest d-ring or grommet above the rub rail .
hook that bungee to a d-ring or grommet and and pull outwards away from the tarp. Since you have multiple tarps that overlap you will need to go underneath to hook each tarp . Make sure you hook the bungees underneath the trailer , you dont want bungee hooks tearing holes in your tarp . Once you have all the corners done , start at the places your tarps overlap in the middle . Grab both tarps at the very bottom and roll them up inwards . Once you roll it up to deck hight set the roll on the deck and put a bungee or two to hold it .
