I would run out of the Savannah terminal. Home time was like the first thing he talked about and said that is like a priority for them.

Short and to the point. Guess thats all I need to hear. I think getting with this company would be beneficial even without the tuition assistance and Apprenticeship Program. I think I will take this job. And I like that I won't have to go away for training besides the week at Greer.

Thanks everyone for input. It anyone has anything else to add please do.

@brsims - Yes, USS New Jersey (BB-62). It's now a museum & docked in the state of New Jersey.
Your father was quite a guy being on submarines; I wouldn't be able to do that; would feel like everything closing in on me. Those old Iowa class battleships were obsolete at the end of WWII but the Navy tried to keep them going anyway. The guns weren't accurate due to powder mixing after WWII. They were running out of the old black powder so mixed it with new powder and couldn't get the formulation right. Made a heck of a sight though at night with those 16" guns firing. I was on another ship when the New Jersey was in Vietnam, but when it was between us and the coast line could feel a heat wave every time it fired. My high school classmate was with the Army, Big Red One, and he said the New Jersey was giving them fire support and it sounded like a freight train when those 16" shells went over them. Wow, time keeps marching on!
My battle station was 2 decks below the main deck right next to the forward gun turrent. I was with a medical team. Very noisy and loud there and even get paint chips breaking off stuff and flying around.

Right shame the old battlewagons grew obsolete is what it is. Yeah, they were expensive as all get out to deploy and crew, but nothing quite "shows the flag" like having a United States Navy Battleship show up in harbor to make a point.

Always did wonder if, given the advances in nuclear power technology and weapons tech, the Battleship concept shouldn't be revisited. Pull the old hulls out of mothballs (if any are left that aren't musuems these days), update weapons, weapons guidance (as I recall, those old warhorses depended solely upon an old analog tracking system or "local control") and power supply. Could probably use automation to reduce crew requirements, too. Replace the old flak guns with updated anti-air defense and load up depth charges for anti-sub, too.

Nah. As great as the Battleship was, she's still too slow on the turn. Would still be prey to the modern day Arleigh Burke class destroyer (fast, maneuverable, and packing a heck of a punch for the size) or the Virginia class fast attack submarine. Not too mention the Nimitz class Aircraft carrier and her what? Three squadrons of fighters?

Superior is the only choice. That $10 per night sleeper pay adds up. Superior will also provide a hotel room when laid over/re-setting near a terminal.

The week in Greer is actually pretty fun....plus you'll definitely learn a thing or two!

They are bringing back modern battleships, just without the powder :) The new Navy Railcannons are phenomenal-more accurate, faster rate of fire, rounds are higher velocity, and range has increased. Each boat will need 2 or 3 reactors active for charge though.

These are the ones based on magentic railgun tech, right? Thoroughly righteous!

how is the home time for working at the Greer terminal? Are you home at least weekly? Also, is this a good terminal for pay and staying busy? I live close by and don't have much tank experience but always hear that tanker is the way to go. Any comments good or bad are appreciated about Superior and especially the Greer terminal.. Thanks
