I passed this truck yeaterday as I was heading the opposite direction about 2 hours before this happened.
The rest of the pickup is in front of the fire truck.
Here is the story.... http://www.kpax.com/story/32301420/...-metal-after-crashing-into-semi-near-columbus
BILLINGS -
The Montana Highway Patrol trooper who was at the scene of a crash near Columbus said he is amazed that the driver who rear-ended a semi truck at highway speeds was not seriously injured.
The crash happened Thursday at around 8:30 a.m. on Interstate 90 just east of Columbus.
The trooper said a semi truck was pulled over on the side of the highway due to a mechanical issue. The male driver of a pickup truck crashed into the back of the semi at 84 miles per hour, the trooper said.
Traffic was reduced to one lane in the westbound lane as authorities investigated the crash. The scene was cleared at around 10:30 a.m.
The pickup truck was reduced to a ball of metal, the trooper said, but miraculously the driver sustained only minor injuries. No other vehicles were involved and the pickup truck driver did not have passengers.
The driver of the semi was not injured. We do not yet know if the driver was cited for the crash.

Minor injuries huh? May I suggest an eye exam ? ...bet the four wheeler wasnt from Montana either and if he or she was probably one of those weed smoking Cali immigrants that lives in bozeman or Missoula .

The goofy thing is that you can see the truck for nearly a 1/2 mile. It was on the last hill west bound before Columbus. When I went by 2 hours earlier he did have his triangles out.
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Depth perception for some people a 84 mph can be tough ! ...came up on one of my South of the border friends in Laredo the other day at 50 mph that was stopped in the road and took time to register he was parked in the travel lane .

It wont be the last ball. That decap bar does take heads off. Something you do not want to walk up to...

This is why you need to program yourself to try and move over anytime you see a vehicle on the "shoulder" or that does not seem to be in the normal flow of things. ... It may be partly or completely in the travel lane. And coming around slight bend in the road, it can be difficult or impossible to tell until you're right on it.
I'm guessing the pickup driver saw the truck and assumed the truck was well off the travel lane and resumed his otherwise inattentive driving state, and was one of those drivers who doesn't even consider moving over, never mind can they move over.NavigatorWife and tech10171968 Thank this. -

Jesus Christ that truck is fudged up. Should I feel better about a $30k pickup truck purchase?
Maybe I should test it out and hit a parked semi at 84 mph....bzinger Thanks this.
